The beach thats closest to Club Villa Azul is often considered to be one of the loveliest in the Virgin Islands. Sapphire Beach has an astounding view. The sandy bottom and coral reefs create an astonishing water color, and theres an in-your-face panorama of St. John and the British Virgins. Youll find water-toys for rent and possibly a friendly beach-volleyball game. On Sunday afternoons, look for dance-parties with a good island band.

St. Thomas iconic beach is heart-shaped Magens Bay one of the worlds most beautiful beaches. Its an easy drive from Club Villa Azul. If youre taking a taxi, make plans with your driver for him to pick you up, too. The gently sloping sandy bottom extends out into the bay providing safe water play for the smallest or least experienced swimmer. There are toilet/shower facilities and a beach concession with great blender drinks (try a Bushwhacker), excellent pizza, and a shop with an extensive selection of swim and beach wear. You can rent beach chairs, snorkel gear, and non-motorized watercraft. There is an entrance fee to the beach and easy parking. On the way home, stop by “Udder Delight” at the top of the beach road for local ice cream or a milkshake laced with Cruzan rum. You can also stop by our sister property, Magens Point Resort thats just past the dairy. Its a great place for a drink and a bite to eat.
Or take a dip at Lindberg Bay, the appealing Caribbean beach youll see when the plane touches down. Bring a cover-up and plan to lunch at one of several spots ringing the beach from resort chic to laid-back local. The beach was named in honor of Lucky Lindy who flew the Spirit of St. Louis into the Virgin Islands in January 1928.
Coki Beach is just a few miles west of Villa Azul and is the best spot for snorkeling and diving from shore. Regular feeding by nearby Coral World attracts shoals of brilliant fish. The coral reef slopes gently offshore, making it great for beginners. Take a snorkel tour, a SCUBA introduction class or try “Sea Trekkin” with Coral World.
Bolongo Beach is a popular island hangout. At Iggys Beach Bar & Grill youll find morning to night fun with volleyball and other beach games, food and drink specials, sports TV, frequent live entertainment and a clientele thats looking for fun in the sun. Good beach, too. Check their sunset sails on Heavenly Daze too.
Check out the beach at Secret Harbour. Its a popular winter beach because the afternoon sun keeps the water warmer. Theres a good restaurant there too. Other hotel property beaches you may want to visit are at Renaissance, Ritz Carlton, Frenchmans Reef and the Westin on St. John.
All beaches in the USVI are public property up to about the vegetation line, but this doesnt include beach amenities. Most hotels rent lounge chairs so check the cost before getting comfortable. Sitting on your towel is always OK. Hotels are usually hospitable about outsiders using their beaches; you may look around and decide to stay with them next time. Be sure to enjoy a drink or lunch while youre on-property.
Dont bring valuables to the beach, but do bring your camera and keep it with you. Remember, it gets very hot inside a closed car.
